Un/titled Becoming
by Petro du Preez
for my nephew and niece, Jean (2012) & Mienke (2015)
BAD art (Becoming Academic Differently) exhibition
This art collection, ‘Un/titled Becoming’, consists of three conceptual pieces or, what I would like to refer to as windows or glimpses into my political becoming as schol/artist.
It forms part of a larger art exhibition titled – BAD art (Becoming Academic Differently) - created and curated for the 2024 South African Education Research Association conference by myself, Daisy Pillay (University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa) and Marguerite Muller (King's College, London).
Our shared work explores the potential of arts-based inquiry to challenge and disrupt dominant narratives and ways of doing ‘scientific’ scholarly research. We also experiment with research creation and the potential of arts-based inquiry to arrive at alternative ways to express embodied and tacit knowledge in the posthuman condition.
